Splat the Cat is one of the most beloved characters in our family and we read a lot of stories about him. They are usually nice and unobtrusively instructive, though some are better than others. The idea behind a picture book "someone goes to the doctor" is obviously old. We do want a book to go along with our chatting preparing the kid to go there, right? Unfortunately, this one misses the point. For my kid at least, going for a check-up always also means vaccinations. And what do you think, they are not exactly pleasant. The book, however, completely omits any unpleasant or painful procedures, setting unreasonable expectations. Thus, only three stars - a reasonably good picture book, but nothing special.
