Odontella aurita

It's that time of year when people start to think about calendars for the next one and rummage in countless folders in search of 12 perfect pictures. Thus, the diatom of the week is one of the cutest photo models of the diatom world. Odontella aurita (Lyngbye) C.Agardh 1832. As you can see from the date (1832!!!), It's been 'the cutest one' for a long time. It even got it's own page on Wikipedia.

Most useful papers.
It was described as it is now in Agardh, C.A. (1832). Conspectus criticus diatomacearum. Part 4. pp. 49-66. But after so many years, the usefulness of papers tend to deteriorate.
So there is a fresher one:
Hoban, Michael, A., 2008: Biddulphioid diatoms III Morphology and taxonomy of Odontella aurita and Odontella longicruris Bacillariophyta, Bacillariophytina, Mediophyceae with comments on the sexual reproduction of the latter. Nova Hedwigia (Suppl. 133): 47-65
