A small, but very intersting diatom - Fogedia geisslerae Witkowski, Metzeltin et Lange-Bertalot 1997.
It was described from the North Sea and now found in the Chukchi Sea, not exactly close, but not too far either. Our specimens are a little bit longer than their European counterparts, ca. 36 instead of up to 30 um, but every other character checks out: width is 7-8 um; slightly radiate in the center, more radiate towards the apices stria, 15-16 in 10 um; lateral areas are mid-way between the raphe and the margin, well-developed; the axial area narrow; the central area transapically expanded up to the lateral areas. Perfect.
