Sometimes, not all that often, freshwater species get carried away and end up in marine sediments. The chosen one this week is going to be one of those diatoms. It's also special in a way that I'm not going to spend time identifiying it to the species level. There are a lot of them in the genus, and it doesn't really matter, since they are all freshwater and there are only 5 specimens in my samples.
Meet Diatoma sp. Bory 1824 (probably Diatoma mesodon (Ehrenberg) Kützing 1844, though), a rare guest in the sea.
