Delphineis kippae Sancetta lives alongside D. surirella in the Bering and Chukchi seas and has a very different shape, when it's big. When it's small, however, it becomes just another small oval diatom, but can be distinguished from a small D. surirella by a wide axial area. The little one was called in my counts Delphineis wide sternum, before the magical sample with all the transitional forms in the size diminution series.
