Review: Stalking Darkness

Stalking Darkness Stalking Darkness by Lynn Flewelling
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

As much as I dislike the idea of the universal evil that needs to be defeated or characters, whose actions are far from perfect, but still lead to a desired result, this was just wow. I raced through the pages and look forward to the next volume. The first one was more of a detective story set in a fantasy world, but the second book turned out to be a brutal epic. I wonder what to expect from the third...

Review: By the River

By the River By the River by Lynn Flewelling
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Such a little snippet! Like a tiny drop of water for a thirsty man. Still, it reveals quite a lot. I knew Seregil was young when he was exiled, but I didn't know he was that young, literally a boy. I wonder how he became the man we see in the Luck in the Shadows.

Review: Mummy Motivation: The Ultimate Home Workout Guide for Mums with Kids at Home

Mummy Motivation: The Ultimate Home Workout Guide for Mums with Kids at Home Mummy Motivation: The Ultimate Home Workout Guide for Mums with Kids at Home by Helen Deakin
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

Half a year has passed since the book was published and it seems to me the author is not very excited about it herself. It may be an excellent book, perfect for me and for every mother on the planet, but I can't get it. And that's a problem. I didn't see it in shops in my town, it's not in the library. I won a giveaway, but the book never came... Apparently, I'm not the only one having troubles getting it - in all this time the book accumulated 3 ratings and 2 reviews, one of which is from the author, the other one is from the author's friend. Thus, a bit frustrated, I'm leaving the book on my to-read shelf only because I don't know where else to put it.

Review: Uprooted

Uprooted Uprooted by Naomi Novik
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I read a couple of reviews that mentioned a "strange, Eastern European accent" of the narrator, so naturally, I was intrigued enough to go and check it out. I'm glad I did - it was a pleasure to return to this book. I'm pretty sure I'll read it again sometime, it's that good (though not without flaws). As for the accent... it was nice enough to listen to. At some points I suspected that the accent was fake, because there were noticeable inconsistencies in pronunciation. Either way, the story wasn't ruined being read aloud. It wasn't quite enriched, but that would be too much of an expectation. The narrator got Sarkan all wrong for my taste, but even he was bearable after all.
